changing domains on LAN
We upgraded our network to server 2008 from server 2003. File serving is still being done on a server 2003 machine.-DNS and DHCP on one box running server 2008-terminal services one one box running server 2008Domain controlling was previously done at the high school in our district, but we are now doing it here so we can use group policy. When we abandoned the old domain name (vues) in favor of the new one (vues0), I figured that after joining all the workstations to the new domain, that the old one would go away. But, when I browse the network, I see both. And, in both domains I see the same workstations. What gives???Will

When you said you abandoned the old domain, did you do a proper decommissioning of the domain and its domain controllers? You could actually rename the domain (if certain conditions are met, refer to the link below):http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc738208.aspx(2003)http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc816848.aspxhttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc816631.aspxDownload Domain Rename Tools (2003):http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsserver/bb405948.aspxYou could also have done an in-place migration of the domain if you want to keep the old domain in existence. You can leverage on the capabilities of ADMT to ease your migration process even if these two domains are in different forests. You may have to do a proper decomissioning of the old domain and a cleanup of AD data:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/216498Regards,Salvador Manaois III MCSE MCSA CEH MCITP | Enterprise/Server Admin Bytes & Badz : http://badzmanaois.blogspot.com
