connect to external ip internally
Hi all, I want to be able to access my apps that are internet facing with domain.com/myapp internally but because domain.com points to a server in my local network it points to my router's page. How do i do it so it acts as if I am connecting as a client e.g. i go to the url and it goes to the site not the router page. Sorry if i explained it badly any help would be great!

Might look at port forwarding in your router setup manual. Regards, Dave Patrick .... Microsoft Certified Professional Microsoft MVP [Windows]

Maybe this helps? Sounds like you're trying to use the same namespace for both. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc755946(WS.10).aspx Regards, Dave Patrick .... Microsoft Certified Professional Microsoft MVP [Windows]

right no you have it all wrong! i am on residential router. when i put in domain.com (which is a dynamic dns to my home server) it puts me through to my router page regardless of my fordwarding rules when i connect from inside. I know that there is a way to configure the dns server on my sbs server to see that i have put in domain.com and that i am internal and it therefore routes me to the webpage I have hosted on my server. does that make sense.

You might try creating an A record named WWW and point it to address of web server. Regards, Dave Patrick .... Microsoft Certified Professional Microsoft MVP [Windows]

Hi rphpro, I assume that the domain.com is an External domain name and has public IP address host it. If so, we can create a new zone named domain.com in internal DNS server. Then, create a host record with the public IP address. So next time you query domain.com from internal, DNS will resolution the public IP address of it. Hope it helps. Best Regards, Aiden
