local dtc missing in the component services

Hi,

I am setting up a Virtual machine and I found that msdtc was not installed. So I installed msdtc and then added it as an exception to the firewall. tried changing few registry entries as said in few blogs. However I am not able to see the local dtc in the component services (dcomcnfg).

any ideas why i am not able to see it and how to fix it ? PLEASE HELP

Thanks in advance PLEASE HELP

I modified the registry as per http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306843

I then uninstalled msdtc and reinstalled msdtc. (msdtc -uninstall, msdtc -install)

I changed the firewall settings and added msdtc to pass firewall (firewall.cpl)

restarted the machine.

still I dont see the local dtc in the component services.

I dont know why this is happening ? PLEASE HELP

Thanks in advance PLEASE HELP

Hi,

That article is targeted for NT4. What OS are you running on? If it is let say 2008 than you need to add Application Server role. Application Server includes services that support applications that are built to use COM+, Message Queuing, Web services, and Distributed Transactions (i.e. Component Services , and MSDTC).
