HiThis issue depend on a lot of facts like roles installed on that server (ADDS,DNS,DHCP,SQL,Exchange……etxc ) or it just windows server 2003 without any roles please cliffy which role installed on this server and you need to observer performance and processes in the task manager to determine if the problem caused by CPU usage or PF usage after that you need to look at the processes tab to see which service casing that Please check and feed us back

What do you mean by the below Rolesstand alone(workgroup) connected to DC(AD)DNSFile serverIISSQL server 2005 Is that server in a workgroup or it joined to domain please clarify For now I can see that this issue may caused by RAM please go to task manager->process tab and click in mem usage to arrange by high memory usage and see which service is the higher and you can search by the name of this service to now if it normal service or it caused by virus, in addition please review your paging files settings is managed by system or it configured manually

Thanks for reply1 This server on which all above roles are installed in workgroup. but we are having one domain in company. this above said server is in workgroup.2 a i have seen process tab task manager and found sqlservr.exe is taking 1.7 GB memory. b w3wp.exe (IIS) process is taking 220 MB memory . c reportingservice is taking 800 MB.3 i m not understanding that pagefile.sys (2gb on c: & 2gb on e:) has been configured on two drives. why ? it is default configration by OS or someone had configured manaually. can u tell me how we can increase the performance by configuring paging file.4 we should configure it on system drive or other drive for best performance5 how many pagefile can exist in system. Thanks

I think it will better to in increase the physical RAM itself not the paging files because the paging files will depend on the speed of your Hard disk (RPM) please read the below articles for controlling your paging files http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/555223?p=1 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/889654

Thanks for replythe system has 4 already GB RAM. So not possible increase RAM this time what can we do more.

You can’t increase the RAM now because the operating system is 2003 standard edition, all you have to do now is to make a decision (you can increase the paging files –observe and move some roles from this server to another one –uninstall unwanted software from that server – you can use adjust for best performance option and you can find it at the below location Right click my computer ->properties ->Advanced -> performance -> settings ->adjust for best performance At the end it will be to your decision Thanks and best regards

Thanks for replySir i m working on production server. So i can set above performance setting on this server without any hesitation.2 Is any tool or script available that can delete temp files, cookies in every profiles on the system, 3 can we delete such a lot of hidden files as C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB972270$, log files, text files those occupy a lot of spaces.4 which files and folders we can delete from C:\WINDOWS folder to increase the space
March 16th, 2010 6:41pm

I think your issue here related to RAM size not the free disk space so no need to delete all those files unless your system drive going to be full capacity and if not so no need to do this At the end please see the below links for removing cokies and temporary internet files http://blogs.technet.com/heyscriptingguy/archive/2004/11/02/how-can-i-delete-the-files-in-the-temporary-internet-files-folder.aspx http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/278835?p=1 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/260897 But I advise you to not do it in server like this unless you have size issue in the system drive and please review all installed software on that server and try to fix it by removing any unwanted software Thanks

CCleaner is your friend. http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download I have used this on Microsoft(R) Windows(R) Server 2003, Standard Edition, Service Pack 2 (Build 3790), and it had similar/more roles then your server and there was no drama (I was a bit scared though =P). I even did the reg clean up feature (disabling Fonts). Cleaned about 4gb of garbage stuff that had built up over the years.
