saving your setting Windows 2003
Hi, External USB hard disk attached to Windows Server 2003 gave the error message and I can't open or explore "My Computer". I can't safely remove the USB hard disk by Windows's "Safely Remove the Hardware". So, I manually remove the USB cable of external hard disk. Since, I can't close "My Computer", I tried to kill the "Explorer" process but I can't. Finally, I decided to logoff but now it is hanging with "saving your setting" message. It is Windows 2003 server and is using as Mail Server with Exchange 2003. Could you suggest that what I should do the best? Thanks in advance. Kyi.

Hi Kyi Phyu Sin, Please first scan the computer and the USB hard disk to see whether there’s any virus existing which is causing the problem. Please also try to perform a clean boot and see whether the problem persists. Please follow the steps below to perform a clean boot. A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts. Click Start, type msconfig in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue. On the General tab, click Selective Startup. Under Selective Startup, click to clear the Load Startup Items check box. Click the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All. Click OK. When you are prompted, click Restart. After the computer starts, start the installation of the features and check whether the problem is resolved. Please also disable the anti-virus software in case of any failures. After you have finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual: Click Start , type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue. On the General tab, click the Normal Startup option, and then click OK. When you are prompted to restart the computer, click Restart. You may also try to enter the safe mode and see whether the problem happens there. Hi Karen, Thanks for your kind answer. On the other hand, the server seems to be hang (with message "saving your setting) and I think, only manual restart will help. However, since it is mail server, I don't want to do the manual restart. Pressing Clt+Alt+Del did not help. Please note that Exchange services are working fine. Is there a way to overcome this situation without manual restart? Thanks. Kyi
