system reboots after getting Event ID 41
Hi, I need some help regarding the event id 41 which has caused the server to reboot. This thing happened only once and my system seems to be stable now. But I want ot know the underlying cause of this problem. The event log gives the following information: -<Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event"> -<System> <ProviderName="Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power" Guid="{331C3B3A-2005-44C2-AC5E-77220C37D6B4}" /> <EventID>41</EventID> <Version>2</Version> <Level>1</Level> <Task>63</Task> <Opcode>0</Opcode> <Keywords>0x8000000000000002</Keywords> <TimeCreatedSystemTime="2012-06-27T07:03:27.803626800Z" /> <EventRecordID>35163</EventRecordID> <Correlation/> <ExecutionProcessID="4" ThreadID="8" /> <Channel>System</Channel> <Computer>OPTIMA-DB</Computer> <SecurityUserID="S-1-5-18" /> </System> -<EventData> <Data Name="BugcheckCode">0</Data> <Data Name="BugcheckParameter1">0x0</Data> <Data Name="BugcheckParameter2">0x0</Data> <Data Name="BugcheckParameter3">0x0</Data> <Data Name="BugcheckParameter4">0x0</Data> <Data Name="SleepInProgress">false</Data> <Data Name="PowerButtonTimestamp">0</Data> </EventData> </Event> The system has the following specs: Windows 2008 server R2 Processor=Intel Xeon SAN has 6 TB of staorage. I would be really grateful if I can get some clue about this problem as why it happened and what should be the possible causes of this issue. Thanks BR

As far as I know, event ID 41 is mostly related to hardware. Most likely fix would be to update the BIOS and firmware. I am not really sure about bug check, so won't be able to comment further. Here are few discussions related to event id 41, might give you some more insight http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/ProLiant-Servers-ML-DL-SL/Event-ID-41/td-p/5593907#.T_QoikVo3dg http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=677174 http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/6701-63-kernel-power-eventid-crittical-errorPress any key... Hi, Event ID 41 error is generated after unexpected shutdown or reboot, so it not recode error reason. An event 41 is used to report that something unexpected happened that prevents Windows from shutting down correctly. Therefore, there may not always be enough information to explicitly define what happened. To determine what may have happened and to identify a potential resolution, it is important to know what the computer was doing at the time just before the event occurred. If event 41 is logged because power to the computer was interrupted, you may want to consider obtaining an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) such as a battery backup power supply. Maybe an underpowered or failing power supply caused this behavior. For example, if you added RAM or additional devices or hard disks when this problem began, the power supply may be a cause of the problem. As other poster mentioned above, event ID 41 error more related to hardware or driver issue, please update BIOS and firmware, also update device driver. HI Lawrence The system on which I got this error is in production, so I want to pinpoint the issue that might have caused this error as it resulted in some heavy loss of data, because MY SAN drive also got crashed after this incident. If it is something related to power than the other systems on the same power supply should have experienced the same thing, but in the current scenario only a single machine failed. Coming to the other causes like firmware or bios issue, How can I identify the root cause because there are so many things written on the forums that might have caused this scenario. So, would you please help me out here in a step by step fashion, so I can connect the missing dots. Thanks

Hi, Since this issue happened on a production server, you may contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support (CSS) via telephone so that a dedicated Support Professional can assist with your request. To troubleshoot this kind of kernel crash issue, we need to debug the crashed system dump. Unfortunately, debugging is beyond what we can do in the forum. Please be advised that contacting phone support will be a charged call. To obtain the phone number for specific technology request please take a look at the web site listed below: Professional Support Options http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;OfferProPhone#faq607Lawrence TechNet Community Support
