unable to remove print driver

Hi, I'm try to remove the printer driver from our server but I keep getting message "Access denied or Driver in use". I have reboot the server but still same problem. no other users are logged in when I'm try to delete the drivers.

How can check which process is using the driver.

we are using

server 2008 r2

check if you have any devices using that particular driver and stop/start the print spooler.

You can check which process is holding a file handle using sysinternals process explorer or an alike tool, or even using resource monitor disk tab (if lucky).

I have stop the printer spooler lot of time but still same problem. I check the resource monitor tab but I couldn't see what is doing this.

I will try the process explorer.

For the error above with the Generic Text only driver package, this is correct.  You only have access to deleting the driver.  You are not allowed access to the driver packages that are installed with the operating system located in \windows\system32\driverstore\filerepository.

For print drivers that are used for a printer connection, the user that has created the connection does not need to logged onto the machine to cause the "Driver in use" error.

You can have all the users on the machine log on and delete their existing connections which use the driver, delete the connection information in the registry for each user that has a connection using the driver, or delete the print driver information in the registry.  Any registry modification will require a print spooler service restart.

Delete the registry entries for that printer.  That is what is producing message that it is still in use.  Search registry for HP Universal Printing PCL 6 (v5.9.0) - the entire line as it appears in the drivers tab.
