Hello, on a DC NO local administrator account exist, ONLY the DSRM administrator. If you have lost the password the official statement is you have to reinstall. You may try options like http://www.petri.co.il/reset_domain_admin_password_in_windows_server_2003_ad.htm on your own risk.Best regards Meinolf Weber MVP, MCP, MCTS Microsoft MVP - Directory Services My Blog: http://msmvps.com/blogs/mweber/ Disclaimer: This posting is provided AS IS with no warranties or guarantees and confers no rights.

When you promote a member server to domain controller it's local SAM database is locked hence you cannot logon locally and only domain admins are allowed to login to the DC. I'm not sure which account you're referring to here? Have you forgotten the DSRM password? if yes you can reset it with steps listed in the following link- How To Reset the Directory Services Restore Mode Administrator Account Password http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322672 And also note that if you plan to demote this domain controller then you will asked to set a new local admin password during demotion wizard so that will solve your problem.
