2nd time: Locked out of my system drive
Hi there, it happened for the second time now: I have no more access to my system drive c: Orginially I shared complete drive c: for pille1234 only (rwx) What I did last was to set up an adhoc wlan network, whick worked as supposed, but that new "feature" Home group got on my nerves, so I left home network and disabled IP v6 on all adapters. Something with ipv6 and home network was the last thing I worked on during the first time I encountered that problem too. Now I am rather baffled. I'm afraid there is nothing more I can do as no reformat again, because I don't have access to C: Oddly enough I can still read C:\users, C:\windows etc but not C: and of course I cannot change any access rights anymore, neither can I start regedit, systemretore or network adapter settings... Any idea what to do? Don't feel like installing all new again. Pille

Pille, It's a bit of an unorthodox solution, but I've had nothing but success in getting around Windows Vista and Windows 7 permissions when using VistaPE , from which you should be able to reset things to your liking.-Alex

Pille - You might also want to make sure you've got ALL of the updates for the RC. There was a bug in the 32 bit RC that got fixed within a day or so of it's release that had to do with permissions being improperly set when you installed the RC. There's an article on ZDNet that explains the bug, lists the KB number(KB 970789), etc...

First thing I always do is to install all available updates. Btw I have the 64bit version in use so this bug is a different matter. Unfortunatly the WinPE solution did not work. Strange thing is I could access my files running Win7 via network using the unc path but not via attached network drive y:\users\... Since I can't elevate my rights even in safe mode nor does Windows recovery console work I guess it is time for another installation now :( Thanks for your help anyway Pille
