hi, what are the differences between Ultimate and RC?. I have ultimate and it will be needed to upgrade to RC before installing the final 7? Ultimate is the fully blown version of Windows 7, RC (which stands for Release Candiate) is almost, but not quite the finished product.Microsoft did release a Windows 7 Ultimate RC version, however there is no official way to upgrade from the RC version to the final version unless you follow this method: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproinstall/thread/454b18b2-05b3-4fb8-9d29-9bb6d34bb878You can see here for the different versions of Windows 7: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_7_editionsYou can see here about the different software stages: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_release_life_cyclePersonally I would say "do a fresh install and just migrate your settings across" -Ken | http://ken.wagnerfamily.co.uk

hi, what are the differences between Ultimate and RC?. I have ultimate and it will be needed to upgrade to RC before installing the final 7? I'm not sure what you're asking. You probably already have the RC release, in the Ultimate version. Details are below. The RTM (release to manufacturing) version of Vista will be available in three versions to home users: Home Premium, Professional, and Ultimate. RTM is the same as will be sold beginning 22 October. Other versions will exist, but they won't usually be seen on retail shelves. There were two publicly available test versions of Win7: the public beta (build 7000), and the RC (release candidate, build 7100). Build 7000 expired on August 1, so you're obviously not running that. The RC expires on June 1, 2010. (It enters a mode on March 1 where it shuts down every two hours, though.) There are other builds that were available from "unofficial" sources. That includes the RTM version. For both builds 7000 and 7100, the keys that Microsoft made available to the public were for the Ultimate version, only. The RC keys also could be used to activate some of the unofficial builds, but not the later ones, and definitely not the RTM versions. (That's leaving off some hacks that work, more or less.)There should be a watermark at the lower right corner of your screen that tells you your build number. Is it 7100?You are not supposed to be able to install the RTM version as an upgrade-in-place (preserving applications and settings) over any of the beta versions. Only a "custom" install will be permitted.(There may be ways to modify the RTM installer to permit an upgrade-in-place, but it wouldn't be recommended by Microsoft.) It's not clear to me yet whether the RC will serveto qualify for the use of aWindows 7 upgrade license.

On the lower right corner of my screen tell: Evaluation copy.Build7127.winmain.090507-1820 That's one of the "unofficial" builds.I presume that you didn't download it from any site connected with Microsoft. The forum rules do not allow discussion of builds other than7100 and 7600 (RC and RTM). (The public beta, build 7000, used to be included, but it has expired.)http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itprogeneral/thread/fd2d96ae-aaa3-49c1-a287-0bddbd21c425I hope that you haven't got one of the downloads that installed malware. If you're lucky, you have a clean build that is basically the RC, with trivial differences. It activated with RC keys, and has the same expiration dates. If you can find a genuine copy of the RC (from a friend, say), I'd guess that you'd need to do a clean install to go legit, as 7127 is newer than 7100.I suggest that you stay with 7127, and install the release version (RTM) when it becomes available. It will have to be a clean install, regardless of which prerelease build you have.
