A minor mistake in Windows 7 Local Group Policy Editor setting?
I think I have found a minor mistake in the Windows 7 Local Group Policy Editor setting which has an incorrect description of a setting, but currently don't know if it occurs on other computer or not. The incorrect description is : Specify if Windows should enable the desktop background slideshow. If you enable this policy setting, desktop background slideshow is enabled. If you disable this policy setting, the desktop background slideshow is disabled. if you do not configure this setting, users can see and change this setting. And the settings are : "Computer Configuration" -> "Administrative Templates" -> "System" -> "Power Management" -> "Video and Display Setting" -> "Turn On Desktop Background Slideshow (Plugged In)" And "Turn On Desktop Background Slideshow (Battery)" What I have found is that when you have enabled these policies, the background slideshow will be turned off instead of enabled, which does not fit the description at all. You can check this out by clicking "Control Panel" -> "Power Options" -> "Change Plan Settings" of one of the plan that you selected -> "Change Advanced Power Setting" -> "Desktop background settings" -> "Slide show". You can find that the setting has become "Paused" instead of "Available" when you have enabled these policies. So can anyone explain to me when this happened? Or is it just a wrong description put in the policy setting?

Hi UnknownzD, Well, here's a guess. It's paused because you have not selected multiple backgrounds for the feature to execute the slideshow. Therfore, it cannot slideshow (the forced policy by gpedit) and it pauses. Right click the desktop and choose the Personalization Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Personalization and select the desktop background at the bottom to select multiple images (ctrl+click\select). It should now become active\show active in the control panel power settings that you viewed. You won't be able to stop the slideshow with the policy active, only cause it to pause with a single background image. This will use system resources constantly in a paused or active state.

Well I have to tell you that I have already selected multiple background image for the slideshow. The only problem is that when I have enabled the "Turn On Desktop Background Slideshow (Plugged In)" And "Turn On Desktop Background Slideshow (Battery)" policies. Windows 7 is stop changing the image as entered the "Pause" state. This is definately not suiting what the description shows on those policies. And the description is : Specify if Windows should enable the desktop background slideshow. If you enable this policy setting, desktop background slideshow is enabled. If you disable this policy setting, the desktop background slideshow is disabled. if you do not configure this setting, users can see and change this setting. By the way I have to told you that the sentence "You won't be able to stop the slideshow with the policy active" is not correct at all, as I have already asked my friend to test the policy on Windows 7 x64 Ultimate too, which shows that when the policies are enabled, the slideshow is stopped instead of continue playing.

I would like to know if this "policy" would help fix a problem. Corel Paint Shop Pro was downloaded onto a system. When loaded it would not load and just shut down. So PSP was removed and everything seemed fine. Until while trying to view pictures, it is stuck in the slideshow. The menu doesnt even have the option to turn it on or off anymore. Its just gone. There is no rollover option either. Also when trying to send a picture as an attachment in email, ALL of them try and attach. Just cant do one at all. Using Windows XP. I've searched the net for anyone having the same problem and have asked others with no solution to be found. Thank you for any information you can give me.
