Accessing mapped drives over VPN
Hi all,I have a client with a Vista Business SP1 notebook using Check Point SecuRemote VPN client and accessing via a 3G USB modem (Telstra using Telstra software). I have VPN working fine and it's accessing Exchange. The problem is with accessing mapped drives and I believe the problem is with SMB and "Client for Microsoft Networks" on the dialup. When I look at the networking properties of the connection, Client for Microsoft Network is not enabled. If I enable it, the message says that it won't apply until next connection. After disconnecting and reconnecting it again is unchecked. Is there any way to make it "stick"?Other clients are successfully using the same setup with the exception of the USB modem.Any ideas?Paul

Hi Paul, Thank you for posting. Based on my research, I would like to suggest the following: 1.Please check the compatibility between Windows Vista and the Check Point SecuRemote VPN client with the following document: Windows Vista-compatible third-party virtual private network (VPN) client scheduleshttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/929490 2.Ensure the Telstra 3G USB modem and its software are compatible with Windows Vista and the Client for Microsoft Networks has been checked. Windows Vista Compatibility Centerhttp://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/ 3.According your description, I suspect the Check Point SecuRemote VPN client created a VPN connection in Windows Vista under Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections. If it is possible, please remove the VPN client and setup a VPN connection with the Windows feature to see if the issue will reoccur. 4.Please perform a Clean Boot to check the issue. Clean boot=================1) Click the Start Button type "msconfig" (without quotation marks) in the Search box, and then press Enter.Note: If prompted, please click Continue on the User Account Control (UAC) window.2) Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray).3) Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK".Then, restart the computer. When the "System Configuration Utility" window appears, please check the "Don't show this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows starts" box and click OK. NOTE: we can go back to normal boot by running msconfig again and checking on Normal Startup in the General tab. In the Clean Boot Environment, the third party services and applications are disabled, please check if the issue reoccurs at this time. If the problem does not occur, it indicates that the problem is related to one application or service we have disabled. You may use the MSCONFIG tool again to re-enable the disabled item one by one to find out the culprit. Meanwhile, it is also recommended that you contact CheckPoint regarding this issue to see if they have solutions. Hope this helps. Nicholas Li - MSFT
