In my set up, it is required that when users request access rights to different applications, the request should follow a given hierarchy. That is, the manager cannot approve if a user's supervisor has not approved. Similarly, notification of the approval should be sent to the next approver whenever the request gets approved.

I have tried to achieve this with FIM's workflow designer to no avail as any of the approvers can approve the request at no proper order.

1. How can I achieve the sequential order of approval?
2. How do I achieve notification to the next approver so they can look at the request and act on it?

Hello,

you can simple add two approval activities in your workflow and place a notification activity between them.

1. approval activity for supervisor

2. notification activity: Notify Manager of Approval from Supervisor

3. approval activity for manager

Manager will get two mails in this Scenario, thats the bad Thing, you can simple remove the notification and place the text of it into the approval of Manager if you want.

What will it look like:

If Supervisor approves request, another request is generated for Manager,
If Supervisor rejects request, Manager will not get an approval mail and also notify mail is not send.

So the approval is cancled if Supervisor denies the request.
