All USB ports suddenly stop working in windows shortly after start-up
Hi, I started having a problem today that I just can't seem to resolve. My computer starts up as per normal and all my usb devices light up (A USB mouse and cooling pad) and windows starts loading as per normal, I log in and everything is fine and then after a few minutes, like clock-work all my USB devices lose power! If I close the lid and let it sleep and the open it again to wake, then suddenly everything works again!, but only for a few minutes... I have tried the following: Restarting Removing all USB devices in device manage then letting window reinstall them. Sfc /scannow System restore to a day from last week. Installed the latest chipset drivers for the laptop (No usb drivers available) I tried some microsoft "fix it's" which also did not help. The machine is running at max performance with selective usb suspend disabled. This machine is a Core i3, 4 GB ram Toshiba Satellite C650 I Would be grateful for any help! EDIT - I noticed this entry occurring in Event viewer - The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: ASPI32 (Could this have something to do with it? Google didn't turn up much.)

1. For troubleshooting purposes set logging boot process in F8 menu ans analyze resulting log file. 2. Measure voltage on USB port 3. Some external devoces use Y fork USB cable to feed. Not using this cable may result in problems. 4. Look into Toshiba forum/community and see if someone publlished similar problem. 5. It seems that you have not interpreted the error in full. Is there something like this? \SystemRoot\SysWow64\Drivers\ASPI32.SYS has been blocked from loading due to incompatibility with this system. Please contact your software vendor for a compatible version of the driver. 6. Avoid using drivers from MS Update. Always use original drivers from Toshiba. 7. If nothing helps, save data and recover system from restore DVD. Regards Milos

Hi Milos, Thank you for the response. Before I started your steps I decided to boot in Safe-mode and see what happens and interestingly it never turned off my USB devices (I tested for about an hour) I then booted into normal windows and was able to work perfectly the rest of the day with no problems at all! Today It started fine as well and I was able to work for an hour or two and then it happened again, then I closed the lid, the laptop went into sleep and when I waked it i was able to work fine again since... Because this is so intermittent I have a feeling this is leading up to possible Hardware failure in terms of the USB controller... :( In regards to your steps: 1. I will try and do this next time it happens. 2. I do not have a voltage meter, but I know it loses all/most power is the little fan in my cooling pad also dies and that uses practically no power... 3. I have not even opened this laptop except for installing a additional 2GB of memory about 6 months ago 4. This problem (or similar ones) are all over the web and in most forums, but each issue is different and I have tried many of the solutions proposed. 5. This is the full error from event viewer. weird I know.. the source is "service control manager" 6. I only use MS update for The Intel Display drivers, nothing else. 7. I really hope it doesn't have to come to that. Will keep you updated on changes and things that I notice. If you have any more Ideas, feel free to bounce them off me.

Hi, Does anyone have any other suggestions for me? Currently the only work-around I have is making the laptop go into sleep mode and then waking it up again. Sometimes it works fine for hours and sometimes it stops working immediately. EDIT: I have resetted the device back to factory default with the recovery disks and shortly there-after the issue occurred again. I'm now convinced that this is a Hardware problem and that it will probably result in a motherboard replacement. The issue is now beyond the scope of this forum.
