Any way to debugg windows 7 RC sleep issues?
Like many others I've had various issues with the sleep feature in Windows 7 throughout the beta but I have to say it's gotten much better in each build. I was happy to see the majority of the issues fixed with sleep hanging and so forth in the RC. However, I seem to have run into a new problem I can't quite figure out. At first, my RC installation would automatically go to sleep just fine, but all of a sudden one day it just stopped working. It WILL go to sleep just fine if I manually initiate it. It comes out of sleep automatically for my WHS backups just fine, but will never go back to sleep afterwards. I really like being able to sleep my PC when it's not in use and having it fire back up right away and I'm somewhat annoyed that this is not working any more. The auto-sleep functionality has worked perfectly for me all throughout the beta. Are there any good tools out there to debug the auto-sleep functionality. Any command line tools? Any way to generate a log file, etc....? BTW, as far as I have checked, I have all the latest drivers installed for everything on my PC.Mike Buonaccorsi

Hi MikeThis is exactly what is happening with me as well on RC 64bit:Initially the PC would go to sleep after the preset time with no activity, wake up for its WHS backup, and then go back to sleep. Now it will not go to sleep automatically, after its WHS backupitsits without going to sleep or letting the monitor switch off (the monitor shows a black screen but is on full power) but will go to sleep if I hit the keyboard sleep button. The only thing I can think of that has happened in between was installation of an external USBTV tuner. Again, as above, I have the latest drivers installed for everything (from the manufacturers website) except for my Creative X-Fi which the creative drivers refuse to recognise so I am using another source for these drivers. However, the sleep mode worked perfectly previously with these sound drivers.Perplexed!!Yogimax

This is happening to me also, though I am not doing any WHS activities. Everything was working great in Win7 so far as sleep and hibernate. But now all of a sudden it refuses to wake from sleep. the hardware turns on, but the screen doesn't fire up and it doest seem to be any activity on the HD My device manager is clean, I have the latest drivers for most things, and even a new BIOS, but this is a complete mystery to me. Looking into the Event Log is useless also. I am using a laptop and this is a show stopper for me. I'll give it a few days and try to play with it, but if i dont figure it out I'm going back to Vista x64 >< Sony Z 590 2.53, 4GB Win7 RC x64 oXide7

I've gone ahead and re-installed Windows 7 from scratch and have been very careful with what I install. So far it's working fine, but it's only been a few days. I think something I installed broke the auto-sleep feature in Windows 7, but I was not able to figure out what or even how to try and figure it out.Mike Buonaccorsi
