Applying KB 983458 to Vista SP2
Greetings, Attempting to apply hotfix KB983458 ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/983458 ) on systems running Vista SP2 32bit. All completely updated as far as Windows Update releases go. However, when attempting to install the hotfix emailed after making the request, we are told the update "does not apply" to our system. Vista SP2 is listed in the article and we are experiencing that exact error. I've carefully gone through the installed updates info to ensure it wasn't somehow already present. I noticed the download request page for the hotfix lists Vista SP3, but assume this must be an error. Thoughts appreciated. -RH

Hi RH, As you said in case that your machine is fully updated, it seems that you may have some KB installed which services the same binary (mrxsmb10.sys) but released after KB983458. So the issue which the KB983458 is fixing, is already taken care in your machine. To confirm this, you can provide the file version for this binary. After the KB983458, two security packages have been released http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2508429 & http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2536276.
