Assigning IP adresses to router DHCP and server DHCP on the same network?
I have a home server and I want to be able to use it at home to receive my emails through exchange and carry out various tasks etc. However I still want other users to connect to my router with out using an static IP. How do you assign say 50 address to the servers DHCP and then the rest to the routers DHCP? This is so I can have DHCP running on the both the router and server without them conflicting. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Alex

Hi Alex - I agree with Milos that you can use DHCP reservations to ensure that each device gets the same address each time and to avoid IP address conflicts. You can also create exclusion ranges for the scopes on the DHCP servers to ensure that they don't issue the same IP addresses. For example, if both DHCP servers have the scope 192.168.1.1-254, on DHCP server 1 create an exclusion range so that it will not issue the IP addresses 192.168.1.1 through 192.168.1.125. On DHCP server 2, create an exclusion range so that it will not issue leases with the IP addresses 192.168.1.126 through 192.168.1.254. Thanks -James McIllece
