Backup and Restore shows error 0x80070057 (The parameter is incorrect)
I got a bigger HD to act as my backup drive. I installed it and moved all the backup files I had on the old one onto the new one. Windows Backup and Restore then displayed the message: An internal error has occured The parameter is incorrect (0x80070057) Ok, so Windows didn't like me replacing the backup drive - maybe there was hidden files. But that is ok, I can discard the old backups and start all over. Though, I has trouble finding a way to do so. I eventually came across these instructions: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/632-backup-user-system-files-reset-default-configuration.html After following them the Backup and Restore control panel was working again and I set up backup again. But after I had initiated a new backup the error came back. But, it appear that Windows is still doing its backup - I see new backup files being created and I hear the HDs work. But the Backup and Restore control panel remains unavailable. Any ideas?-Cheers!

Hi, Based on my research, Microsoft has released a KB related to backup error code 0x80070057: "0x80070057" error message when you back up files in Windows 7 Meanwhile, you could refer to the similar thread which might be useful to you: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprogeneral/thread/64f2b570-3b92-409c-a2d5-134dd2dd6287 Hope it helps. That first link: Method 1: Changing my decimal symbol is a no-go. I need it to remain a comma as it is. I don't understand why a MS KB even suggests that as a solution Method 2: I could try this, but I wonder what the system impact is. The registry key it refer to is not 100% correct either. It's HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System Due to the absurdity of Method 1 and that that Method 2 contains incorrect info, without much explanation to exactly what it's suppose to do I'm reluctant to try it. That KB just seem odd. It also describes the backup to fail with this error, but in my case the backup runs, but it's the Backup and Restore Control Panel applet that doesn't display the overview. So in any case the KB doesn't seem to fully fit. I'll try an email some of the MS people investigating the issue in that second thread. -Cheers!

Just for debugging I tried to set the locale to UK - sp the decimal symbol as period. But still no go. :(-Cheers!

huh... I just sent of a longer email describing the issue in detail... then I rebooted once more, just for the sake of it. and it's now working. Problem is that I was trying multiple things - so I have no idea what corrected it... At least it works for me now - sorry I can't help anyone else with the same problem.-Cheers!
