Bitlocker - decrypt drive
Machine quick specs Windows 7 RTM, Disk 1 SSD, Disk 2 SATA. I have a laptop which has 2 drives both of which are encypted with Bitlocker and both are set to automatically decrypt on the laptop. Last night I got a bluescreen and when I restarted it prompted me for my bitlocker key for the D: drive. Our support personel sent on the keys this morning and it works however I am getting a bluescreen on startup. As far as I can see its due to the drive not being able to be read as its encypted. Now I cannot read the full stop mesaage as its set to reboot automatically on stop. Is there anyway to stop this. I tried pressing F8 once I enter the Bitlocker key but I cant get access to the startup options to stop the automatic reboot or enter safe mode. In the startup repair its giving me the error as that the drive could not be read as its encypted. What I am wondering is can I decrypt the drives on another machine and if so does this machine require a TPM module? I have a machine with an eSATA caddy which I could use to decrypt them but it doesnt have a TPM chip Blog: http://www.certsandprogs.com 70-515 Objectives List with MSDN Links 70-536 Objectives List with MSDN Links 70-505 Objectives List with MSDN Links 70-562 Objectives List with MSDN Links 70-433 Objectives List with MSDN Links

To answer my own question Yes you can decrypt a disk on another drive when you have the unlock code. For the record, the issue was that there was an MBR virus on the laptop specifically Trojan:DOS/Alureon.A (details) which caused an issue with the MBR having an incorrect code signature and causing the boot issue I used the following tools to find the issue - MS Security Essentials - MBRCheck - To remove I used Kapersky TDSSKiller Blog: http://www.certsandprogs.com 70-515 Objectives List with MSDN Links 70-536 Objectives List with MSDN Links 70-505 Objectives List with MSDN Links 70-562 Objectives List with MSDN Links 70-433 Objectives List with MSDN Links
