Bitlocker 8 host and RAID drive

I am running Win 8 Enterprise and have bitlocker installed on OS and RAID 0 drive.  I have working recovery key and USB key for OS drive but not key for RAID.  Host OS will not boot.  I can decrypt and read OS on another Win 8 Enterprise system but can't find the recovery key for the RAID drive.

Automatic repair has failed on OS.  I have restored OS to previous safe.  Didn't work. I have checked disk for errors none found.  Still will not boot.  If I could boot then I can get back to Raid I hope.

I am reluctant to take other steps for fear of ruining my RAID 0.  My backup of RAID 0 is dated so I really want to get the more current data back.  I did have a power spike which is probably the cause on my problems.  The RAID has been disconnected.

What is the safest way to recover my RAID data?

I am not connected to AD.

Hi,

First, please be aware that Software and Hardware RAID are not supported by BitLocker. You can refer to this article for details:

Encrypted Hard Drive

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh831627.aspx

As my understanding that you main issue is that we failed to boot into Windows. You have tried to auto repair, restore and check disk for no avail.

It seems that we can enter the Windows 8 Advance options:

Regarding current situation, I suggest we try following command in command prompt to repair boot file:

bcdboot C:\Windows

In addition, lets try steps here to check the issue:

Thanks for your reply.  No joy.

So if I decrypt my OS with Repair BDE will that leave me with a decrypted OS that I can then do something with?

Or if I upgrade with Windows 8.1 and keep my files will that keep the key tot he RAID drive?  I upgraded another win 8 with 8.1 and kept my files and it recognized and kept all sorts of settings like my picture password?

Where is the best documentation for Repair BDE?

Thanks Kate, You provided the locations I needed.  Based on what was at thiose locations data is written to new drive.  Old drive is left in its encrypted state.  From documentation was not clear the new drive could be mounted as a data or OS drive os opposed to just being blocks of directories and files.

Hi,

Please enter the command prompt in WinPE and run following command to list your disks information:

Diskpart

List disk

Post the results back here.

Also, I am sorry to say that if the RAID is corrupted, even though we upgrade to Windows 8.1, we still cannot get the data back.

In order to better help you, please help to verify following questions:

  1. Have you ecrypted your RAID with Bitlocker also?
  2. What kind of the recovery key you mean to the RAID?

Keep post.
