Bitlocker OS drive decrypt goes automatically to encrypt
I encrypted the C: drive on a Windows 8 laptop and do not want the feature but when I go to decrypt it, it automatically goes back to encryption at 51% every single time I try to turn off Bitlocker. Encryption finishes again and the same cycle is repeated. How do I get my drive decrypted and this feature off my laptop? Thanks.

Hi,

Firstly, open Control Panel and access to Bitlocker settings to disable Bitlocker encryption.

Then, Open Services.msc in Run, then disable BitLocker service should be work to disable BitLocker encryption.

If problem persists, open Group Policy to check if there any BitLocker policy enabled, if that it is, disable them.

Please provide screenshots of that cycle you are talking about.

Thanks for the reply. This did not solve the issue. The "Turn off Bitlocker" process starts to decrypt for a split second and then goes to Encrypting.... 51% even with the Bitlocker service disabled.

There are no group policies for Bitlocker in our domain. I handle those and know for a fact this feature is not used anywhere.

It's looking like a reinstall of Windows is in my future.

You don't need to reinstall. Suspend bitlocker, make an image copy of your drive and replay that image. The result will be decrypted and ready for re-encryption (if needed). Any imaging solution will do as well as windws' own.

Hi, K_Mart,

Have you checked Task Scheduler? BitLocker decryption automatically is probably managed by Task.
