Bitlocker encrypted Hard Drive needs to be backed up: Windows not working on the computer
With bitlocker enabled on my Toshiba computer, my Windows crashed!  When turning on the computer, I'm able to view the Bitlocker sign in page and sign in without a problem although since Windows has crashed, Windows does not come up so I'm unable to access my files.  I understand that I'm able to complete a full system restore and have the USB media restore drive to do so along with my Windows 8.1 Pro Pack that allows me to restore everything.  The problem is that if I restore the system, all my files will be lost.  I need to back up all of my files before I do the system restore.  Since bitlocker was enabled when the Windows crash happened, it is preventing access to the files.  Please help with any information that you can provide about how to back up these encrypted bitlocked files.  If you know of professionals that provide service that can work with this issue, please let me know.  Thanks for your time with this

I am not sure about this method but giving a try will be worth.

Try to attach the corrupted hard drive to some other machine as a removable drive. Boot the machine with the previous default boot setting from the OS drive of the laptop to which the corrupted drive has been attached. Don't try to boot through the corrupted drive on changed machine.

When you will try to access the corrupted data, it will goes into the recovery mode. Access the data using the recovcery keys.

If it will get accessed you can atleast back up your data and then can do the system restore.

Gaurav,  Thanks so much for your response.  Looks like i may give it a try but I'm a novice at this and maybe asking for some step by step information to get through this.  1st of all:  How do I attach the corrupted HD to another computer or machine as a removable drive?  Can it be connected via USB to my router/server?  Should I connect it to another Windows computer?  If so, How??  Thanks for your time with this!!

Currently I'm working on finding a docking station that I can connect the Hard Drive to so that I may attach the dock and drive to the computer via USB.  I've taken the Hard Drive (the one that has the data I need) out of the computer it was in and installed a new Hard Drive.  With the new Hard Drive, I've been able to "Media Restore" the computer back to factory standards, upgraded to Windows 8.1 and 8.1 Pro.  With that said, the computer is now working and I'm left with the other Hard Drive to back up the data from.  My plan is to utilize a docking station with the hope of the, now restored computer, recognizing the disk mounted in the docking station, as an external drive.  If successful, I'll copy and past the files into the computer.  Does this sound like it will work?  Will the Bitlocker create any difficulty?  You may recall, I do have the password and key.  Your comments are most welcome!!
