After reboot have black screen with live mouse pointer. Can run task manager can open this browser. Can minimize to where the task bar would be. Search for explorer.exe produces a no registry key found. Running regedit search for explorer.exe comes up empty. Was noticing earlier today that windows explorer was not found under accessories but I could run explorer.exe. I guess the questions is how do I restore explorer or add a registry key? Thanks.

Hi When you see the black screen, open the Task Manager. Select File / New Task (Run...), type explorer.exe and click OK. If the Desktop appears, perform the following. 1. Click Start and type regedit.exe in the search box. In the results, right click regedit.exe and select the Run As Administrator option. This will open the registry editor. 2. Navigate to the following key. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon 3. With the Winlogon key selected, look in the right side for the value named Shell. 4. Double click the Shell value to open. In the Value Data box, you should see explorer.exe and nothing else. If it shows anything else, change it to Explorer.exe and click OK.
