Blue screen on laptop!!!!
I own a Dell inspiron 1720 laptop. I recently upgraded to windows 7. I have had no problems until the other day. I decided to close my laptop and come back to it later. I came back and my laptop was off. So what I did was I turned my laptop back on and once booted up I closed it and then opened it about 30 sec later. I saw the blue screen of death. It was almost done earsing physical memory when I opened it. It does this every time I close my laptop. Please help. What is wrong with my laptop??

Hard to say exactly what is going on without more info.Does it BSOD if you shut the laptop off properly and start it up again without closing the laptop? Can you get into Safe Mode at all? If so, can you get into the Event Viewer to see what exactly caused the BSOD? Do you recall whatever it was you installed last prior to this issue cropping up? Now when you say it was almost done "earsing" physical memory, is it going through a complete boot sequence, including POST? or...?Get back to us and let us know.

I assume you upgraded from Vista to Windows 7. It almost sounds as if there is a chipset or video driver that is causing your issues when you close your laptop lid and place the system into a sleep mode. Also, could you elaborate on what you meant by . . .almost done earsing [sic] physical memory . . .?

I recently updated my NVidia 8600M GT driver. I have noticed that windows update has another update for this driver. Should I update it. The BSOD does NOT appear when I turn off the computer, only when I close it. Also here is the order of what happens:1. Windows 7 has sucessfully booted up.... no problem.2. I close all openwindows and close the laptop.3. I count to ten and see the blue screen of death. (If I wait longer then 20 sec then the comp is already turned off)By almost done earsing [sic] physical memory I mean the last line on the blue screen of death.. It says. Dumping Physical memory to disk: 45

Ok this is going to sound weird, but I tried closing my laptop to get the BSOD information and it actually went to sleep. So I will let you guys now if I see the screen again, but for now it seems to have gone away.
