Breaking / Removing software mirror on boot volume
Hi, would like to break or remove mirror on a boot volume. Unfortunatelly, neither Disk Management console nor DiskPart command fails with "The specified plex is a the current system or boot plex." on the both disks. Current state: Disk 0: Volume 1 (System, Boot, Page File, Crash Dump), Volume 2 Disk 1: Volume 1 (System, Boot, Page File, Crash Dump), Volume 2 I would like to make one of the disk free, so the Volume 1 and Volume 2 retains on one of the disk (the same) and whole the second disk becomes free. I have tried both: diskpart select volume 1 break disk=0 Virtual Disk Service error: The specified plex is a the current system or boot plex. I have tried both: diskpart select volume 1 break disk=1 Virtual Disk Service error: The specified plex is a the current system or boot plex. What do you suggest? Thank you.

I believe you must start by disabling the RAID mirror in the BIOS and then you may be able to delete the partitions on the second hard drive. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Hi, thank you for your reply. I missed a note that this is a software mirror created using the Windows Disk Management tool.

I have no recommendations on thia as I have never played with Windows RAID software. I only used hardware RAID.Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Hi, Since you create RAID on the two disks, actually the volume 1 and volume 2 are on the RAID drive that is composed by the disk 0 and disk 1. If you want to remove the RAID and put volume 1 and volume 2 on one of the disks, the whole RAID drive should be removed and one of the drive needs to be formatted and parted to two partitions. Data may be lost. Do you really want to do that? You may enter disport, then enter “list volume”. You will see the volumes. I guess that your RAID volume is volume 0. Please confirm. Delete the RAID volume, and then you will be able to do other things you want to do.
