Briefcase Folder - 64-bit Corrupt Database.
Hi All,I am dual-booting between Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 on one computer and Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit Beta version on that same computer with no problems with the created Briefcase Folder. On the other hand, I am dual-booting between Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 on another computer that is a 64-bit Computer and Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit Beta Version. With every Briefcase Folder created on the Desktop in the 64-bit version, the Database is corrupted, while the files remain untouched.Every time I click on that Briefcase, the Database is corrupted.I sent in Feedback, but don't know if they read it, since I am a Public Beta Tester.thecreator

I can promise you that the feedback will be read as the dev teams need as much data about bugs from as many different people as possible, so that they can try to hunt down these bugs before Windows 7 is sent to store shelves. : )

thecreator, Is it corrupted on the machine on which you made the Briefcase? I had the same apparent problem with a USB stick briefcase, created on a 32-bit XP machine at work and reported as corupt on my home PC (64-bit W7b). I think it is something to do with Win7beta's interpretation of the Briefcase contents, since my home PC has no information whatever on synchronisation of the contents of the USB stick - that's only on my work PC. I will alter nothing on the stick and see if the work PC reports any corruption when I get back next week. If there's no corruption, it's a function of W7b.

Hi birchyboy,My initial complaint was that even a New Briefcase was corrupted, even with no files inside the Briefcase folder, in the Dual-Boot Scenario with Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 which is a 32-bit Version. But I had a problem with Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3, so from Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit Beta Version, I had reformatted that partition, so it was empty.I rebooted the computer. And on a hunch, I opened the Windows 7 Briefcase and no Corruption occurred. I restored the Windows XP Home Edition using Acronis True Image 10 Home from within Windows 7.No more Corruption occurs. The files inside were always fine. Now, if I access the other Briefcase Folders in those other partitions containing Windows XP, I do get a Database Corruption message. But on the Windows 7 Desktop, no more corruption.I can't figure it out, because in a Dual-Boot Scenario, you want to install the older operating system, first.thecreator

Hi, thecreator All I can assume is that when you restored the image, networking parameters were not automatically implemented. I dual boot XP Pro and Windows 7 beta on both my laptop and home PC. My work PC has XP and W2000 server. For the home pc, W7b was installed after XP and for the laptop, it was installed after Vista, but I still get the corruption with both. However, today I noticed something strange. I had been accessing the briefcase at home on my USB stick all morning, but directly from Word 2007, without any problems. As soon as I used W7b Windows Explorer to do the exactly the same thing, I got the corruption message (only when I tried to access files inside the briefcase, not when the USB loaded). It appears to be something to do with Windows Explorer trying to synchronise network files, whereas Word was accessing the files directly. When I then tried to update the files on XP at work, I got a message that all the folders and files were orphans - W7b had amended the briefcase to record the lost sync (which hadn't actually been lost until W7 stored the "#copy of corrupt briefcase files" on the USB). I'll just have to continue to only ever access the briefcase from within an application, rather than via Windows Explorer in W7b. It's a mystery to me, but we can't be the only people having this problem. There were 20m copies of W7b distributed. --------------- birchyboy
