Brother HL-2140 on 7 (x64) networked to Vista (x86)
Re: Brother HL-2140 monochrome laser printer
Installed on Windows 7 64-bit and fully functional
To be shared over home network with Vista 32-bit
Vista 32-bit 'finds' the HL-2140 on 7 over the home network but does not load the available 32-bit driver
Has anyone made this combination work? Brother's tech support says they do not support networking on this model, so no help there …
In Windows 7 (64-bit), in Printer Properties under the Sharing tab, there is an "Additional Drivers" button that ostensibly allows 32-bit drivers to be added for the particular printer for just this situation.
The downloaded 32-bit HL-2140 drivers for Vista are not accepted; nor are they accepted after being located in Vista's Add networked printer routine. Specifically, at both the Windows 7 64-bit end and the Vista 32-bit end the file "BROHL07A.INF" is rejected
as not matching the operating system.
The correct 32-bit driver has definitely been downloaded and unpacked:

Any suggestions most welcome!

Hi,
This issue can occur by incompatible printer driver. Since the driver is made by third party Manufacturer which we do not have enough Knowledge about it, to resolve
the issue, it’s highly recommended to involve the manufacturer for further assistance.
As an alternative method, I suggest you move the printer and connect to the Windows Vista machine directly, and then check whether it can be installed on the local
machine. If still not, I’m afraid that you have to contact Brother for more suggestions. Otherwise, you can share the printer on the Windows Vista to Windows 7 for a test.
Thanks,
Novak

same problem had been happening to me.. it is not the drivers.. its your network advanced sharing setting.
en file/printer sharing
**do not use 128 bit encryption; use 40/56 bit
