Build 7264 Invalid product key
Hello all and thank you in advance for any help you may provide.I have downloaded and installed Build 7264.I received a pop-up last night reminding me that I needed to Activate Windows. I made an attempt to enter the key but got an "Invalid product key" notification. I have been back to the microsoft download page and tried as many as 10-15 " refresh screen| new code generated | inserted | failed " cycles without any sucess. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?Thank you againBest RegardsRichard

Rigerman - That build is off limits and is not supported in these forums. There are exactly two builds that we are allowed to discuss - build 7000 (the official Beta) and build 7100 (the official Release Candidate). Builds other than those were not released by Microsoft and were, no doubt, obtained from shady sources. As such, those shady sources have been known to modify these "leaked" builds so they come preloaded with malware. The reference on this can be found here.

Hello again,Doing a little more investigation (and deciding to download the file from Microsoft), I see that the name of the file I am downloading "implies" that I am downloading build 7000 and not 7264. Then I remembered that I shortcutted the dowload process earlier in the weekby getting the file from a guy who had already downloaded it. (I assumed it was from microsoft). Is it possible that I have a version that is not intended for release to the public? If this is the case, I should wait for this (ms site version) file to download and then just uninstall/reinstall.Dissapointed I am.Best RegardsRichard

Build 7000 has not been available for download from Microsoft for quite a while.Set your expectations to "very low", and you will avoid being disappointed.Doc

Wolfie 2k6,Sorry if this response and my previous post are out of sequence, with your post, I reposted without refreshing. You have confirmed what I suspected.I am in the process of completing the download from MS of whatever the latest available version is after which I'll be removing 7264 and hopefully the key will work.Thank you for the clarification, it shows me how easy one can get caught in a bad loop.I hope the version I am downloading is not too much "less" than 7264.Best RegardsRichard

Richard - The only current build available from Microsoft that's meant for general public consumption is build 7100. 7000 is now considered obsolete and is set to expire permanently on August 1st - which is a bit more than 3 weeks away. Be sure to download the RC from here.
