CMD command wilded out on my PC!
I entered this command on the advice of two others. How can I reverse the damage? PC no longer acknowledges devices in USB ports. Here's the command, and I hope someone has a remedy. Thanks, Max --------------- ipconfig /all -- return (save results for next time---its microsoft)ipconfig /Flushdns --returnipconfig /release /all --return Max

Those commands had absolutely nothing to do with USB ports. They are for networking. ipconfig tells you the configuration (does nothing) flushdns clears the dns entries for the ISP you use and since you are on line they have restored themselves on the next boot Release is very much like flush. It clears old informatiion which is restored on next boot Can you tell us what the USB ports are doing? DOes a reboot make them work? Does it work when you boot into safe mode (F8)? when did this start happening, etc.MS-MVP 2010, 2011, 2012 Sysnative.com Team ZigZag

Thanks for the reply ZigZag. This began when I was unable to backup 117Gb C: drive onto a clean 160GB external drive. After countless forums and repair attempts I got desperate and typed in that "command". Immediately after I entered the command I rebooted. My PC then would only give the "beep" that it had connected to the external drive but it will not be listed in "My computer". I am truly at a loss. Thanks, MaxMax

Sounds like a dead external drive... If you type Windows + R and enter "devmgmt.msc" and hit enter, do any of the devices have a yellow exclamation point -- Mike Burr Mike's Technology and Finance Blog Learn to Troubleshoot Windows BSODs

No problems there Mike, and I had ran disc check on both drives. I do have an event log Kernel error - 0xC0000035 that I was trying to rid with that command. I also tried to remove junction files using CMD - dir/als/s but I could not locate the listed files to remove.Max

Well, I went into computer management and found the external drive. I formated it and it was now accessible. But, I ran Windows 7 backup and again it would only run to about 50% then stop and say that I needed to format my external drive. I've been working on this for days, and I'm stump. Any ideas would be appreciated. Max

After you formatted it, did you run CHKDSK /R to mark any bad sectors? It sounds like a hardware problem of some sort, and that will help eliminate the external drive. SC Tom

Tom, I have ran chkdsk on that drive twice after formatting, and either it will tell me to format or it will lockup and I will then have to hardboot.Max

Can you paste any related errors from the event log? Below is the error that you were receiving, but we don't have a lot of context around what Windows encountered it with # for hex 0xc0000035 / decimal -1073741771 : STATUS_OBJECT_NAME_COLLISION ntstatus.h # Object Name already exists. # 1 matches found for "c0000035" -- Mike Burr Mike's Technology and Finance Blog Learn to Troubleshoot Windows BSODs
