Right now krummedige has a cable modem that is plugged in via USB to the computer. This methodrequires a driver to be installed for the modem (you need the correct driver, look at device manager it will let you know if installed. MCP suggested to use an ethernet cable instead of USB. Most Cable Modems support both USB and ethernet cable. to use an ethernet cable, you need to have a NetworkCable (don't use cross over cable). Plug into modem and into ethernet jack on PC. rebot PC. Try log in to ISP service. However since you need to login for service, USB connectivity may be required, check with ISP. I got Road Runner which is on all the time.

You will have to check with the manufacturer of the modem I suppose.

First make sure you are using either usb or ethernet. you cannot use both, if both are connected you wont recieve a validwan ip address. if this is strictly a modem then check your ipaddress in the command prompt and make sure it is a valid wan ip address. if you recieve an apipa eg.169.x.x.x then you more than likely have a static ip address (this is true if you bypass usb and use ethernet)and youll need to contact your isp. if this is a modem/router then you will have a lan ip address of 192.168.x.x. like what was mentioned above ethernet is faster and more reliable than usb. if you are using usb then swap out the cable and try a new one, as well as using a different usb port on your laptop.
