Can't edit HTML files over network. Permission denied!
I can't edit my xxxxx.html files which reside on Win2003 file server. I use Dreamweaver. I've tried also with notepad, et al and same problem. I never had a problem with XP but now I have this major, major problem. I get this error: A sharing violation occurred while accessing E:\ccc\ddd\M564D.tmp. I click OK and the file is then deleted!!!! If however, I let the file sit there for about 10 minutes, then it will let me save it thus replacing the deleted files. Cool eh! I don't have this issue with other file types, just .html files. I tried renaming it to .htm and guess what! It won't let me. If I move the file to my desktop then I can edit it. I'm logged in as an administrator. I've set Dreamweaver to run with admin privileges. I removed my anti-virus, turned off windows defender, turned off firewall. I turned UAC off completely. Nothing has worked. So far I'm not overly impressed with Win 7 and MS tech support was a flippin' nightmare. Does anyone know what the heck is going on? This should not be a problem. thx

Have you contacted anyone at Adobe to see if there is something that needs to be done to correct this? Last time I checked Dreamweaver is an Adobe product and support for Dreamweaver is provided by Adobe. I had a problem with a couple of my applications after Win 7 RTM and I contacted the publishers of the software products for the solutions, not Microsoft. The publishers of the software products had to make some alterations to their programs to fix the problems. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. I doesn't matter what app I use. I've tried notepad, editpad lite and wordpad. I can edit .php files, .css files with Dreamweaver or any other text editor but I cannot edit .html or .htm files. I can edit photoshop files with photoshop of course. It's definitely not an Adobe problem. Note that I cannot even rename .html or .htm files.

No, I've double checked everything and tested looser permissions without any luck.

Sounds like there is a policy in place that could be hampering the saves. I use Linux which has its own permissions headaches. I have used Windows server so I am aware of the issues with it as well. Look for them with Google, search for Windows Server 2003 policy or something like that.Vote if answered or helpful, I am running for Office (joke)! Hi, Based on my research, Sharing Violation occurs because the thumbnail cache which updates the metadata displayed in the Windows Explorer detail panel was locking the file. To resolve it, please turn off the Details Pane in Windows Explorer. Click Organize, click Layout, unselect “Details Panel”. I use details a lot when I am looking to check files on the servers and its not a problem. When I open a PHP file, EW opens immediately as that is my current default editor. I have CS5 and I use Dreamweaver a bit when I want to do some checking other tools. I use Photoshop a lot more though. Vote if answered or helpful, I am running for Office (joke)! Thank you! This really solve my users problem. For me it is the "Preview Pane" instead of the "detail pane" Many users in other forums are facing the same problem, but with no known solutions (some recommend solutions like re-installation). I am bringing this thread up so they can find this page. Colin esatap.sg
