Can't ping/RDP XP Pro machine from Windows 7
I know there aresimilarquestions out there, but I haven't found any answers that work so I'll ask my own. I just built a new Windows 7 Home Premium machine to replace an XP Home box. With the old machine, I used to run Remote Desktop back to my work laptop when I have it at home, on my LAN. My basic problem at this point is that this doesn't work with the Windows 7 machine. Well, actually, I'm assuming that RDP works, I just can't get to that point. I can't see or ping the XP Pro machine; the error is "Destination host unreachable" from the W7 NIC IPv4 address, which I believe means it's not even sending the ping out to the default gateway. I can however ping/browse my Debian fileserver from W7, and I can ping the W7 machine from the XP Pro machine. I've disabled the firewall, tried adding a static IP route, enabling NetBIOS over TCP/IP for IPv4, and tried it with and without a homegroup enabled. Network discovery is on. Again, we're talking about PCs on the same internal LAN, same subnet. The XP Pro machine is connected wireless, the other two machines are wired, same switch. Would be really nice to regain this functionality.

You mean that all the computers are in the same network, and the system of the work laptop is Windows XP Professional. Correct? What is the error message when the Remote Desktop connection failed? Did you disable the firewall on the Windows XP computer or the Windows 7 computer? Can you access the Windows XP computer by entering \\ip address in Start Search box in Windows 7? I suggest that you install the latest Remote Desktop client on the Windows XP Professional laptop.
