I recently turned on windows update for an old computer that is running Window XP Professional. Before SP2 was installed I was able to ping internet host names such as www.yahoo.com .After the installI could not do it anymore. It kept saying hostname not found. I can ping yahoo's IP address 209.131.36.158 but not www.yahoo.com. ipconfig /all shows that I am connected to my wireless gateway 192.168.254.254 and the DNS name is 192.168.254.254. I am also able to ping the DNS/gateway and yahoo's IP address directly. There isno issue with network connectivity.It seems like XP can't talk to the DNS server on the gateway. I won't be able to browse the Internet using IE but strangely enough Firefox is capable of resolving the hostnames and browse Internet. My other computers are able to connect and surf Internet through the same wireless gateway. And this computer was able to do so before SP2 installation. Could someone please help me lookinto this issue? Thank you.
