Can't print from wireless Vista laptop to Win 2000 desktop SHARED printer HPDeskjet 990Cse
I have Vista Home Premium on my laptop, and Win 2000 on my desktop. I'm using a Linksys Wireless Router. I have no problem connecting to the Internet on both machines. I have no problems sending/sharing files back and forth over the network and can print on my HP Deskjet 990Cse printer from the desktop but not from the laptop. (However, if I plug the printer DIRECTLY into the laptop it prints just fine.) I went to HP.com and they say I have the proper driver to print with Vista. When I try to print from the laptop, it shows the little printer icon sending the page but it just sits in the queue and never prints. Is there some other way to get the laptop to print??? Thanks, Carol.

Hi Carol, The problem you described seems to be a little complex and we may need some steps to find the root cause of the issue. As the firstly step, you may try to temporarily disable the firewall and anti-virus software on Windows 2000-based desktop and try to print from Windows Vista again. Let us know the result if possible. Cheers, Lionel

This is a problem in Vista. There is a work around until it's solved. It has to do with User Account Control.Solution:Go to Contol Panel & then Open Security Center (in Vista) click on 'Other Security Settings' Turn 'OFF user account control.Tiy should now be able to print wirelessly. This fix was given to me by Dell & it is the only way I can print to my wireless printer, unless I want to run every program as an administrator & then open a saved file to print.
