Can't reinstall windows components
I inadvertently uninstalled windows accessories when trying to add some windows components. I have tried to add them back but I get an error saying it can't be found. I searched the folder C:\windows\i386 and the files are there but it doesn't recognize them and keeps asking me to find a different folder. I want to add back the games and volume control but no luck. Please help if you have knowledge of what my problem could be. Forgot this. Operating system Windows XP Home edition with service pack 3.

Hi stevesport, - What are the Windows accessories that you are referring to?- Does your computer show any error message? If yes, specify the same. - Have you disabled the built-in games for Windows? Method 1: If you are referring to the built-in games being disabled, try this step: To turn them back on follow this step:a. Click the Start button, click Control Panel, click Add or Remove Programs, and then click Add or Remove Windows Components in the left pane.b. Now in the Windows Component Wizard select the check box for Accessories and Utilites->Click on Details->Select the Games check box, and then click OK.This should help you to enable the built-in games. Method 2: Try using the System File Checker (SFC) utility and check if it helps in fixing the issue. The System File Checker (Sfc.exe) utility is used for scanning protected operating system files to verify their version and integrity. If System File Checker detects any operating system file with the incorrect file version, it replaces the corrupted file with a file that has the correct version from the Windows installation source files.SFC tool scans system files and replaces incorrect versions of the system files by using the correct versions. I used the system file checker. Then went back to install windows components. Let me be clear. I know how to use control panel, install windows components and checking the box. I even went to details to make sure all files were checked. When I start install the system prepares for installation the when it tries to install the first file it stops and says can't find file. The folder it stops on is C:\windows\i386. When I do a browse the file that it's trying to install is listed in the folder. This is not your run of the mill problem. I need some help from a real expert. Thank you.

Verify the SourcePath value at:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SetupIf your i386 folder is at C:\windows\i386 then the SourcePath value should read:C:\windows John
