Can't see my local network thru wireless connection but thru ethernet it's OK. Internet OK with either.
guys,I have a home wireless network with 3 Dell laptops and 1 Dell desktop all running Windows 7. When the laptops are hard-wired through ethernet everything works fine. However, when the laptops on wireless only, the 'network' entry in Windows Explorer no longer shows other machines on the network. I'm also not able to UNC (\\hostname) to the other machines. PING also no longer works. Internet access, however, is unaffected. What's going on?I've tried:- adding suffixes to my adapters- turning off the Windows Firewall- disabling McAfee Viruscan Enterpries (v8.7)- checking the ethernet/wireless adaptars have the same 'properties' including TCP V4/6 setup- checking that all machines are on the same workgroup (called HOME-LAN)- checking that all machines use 'Home' networking (from the 'Network and Sharing Center')- checking the 'advanced sharing settings' from the 'Network and sharing Center' are OK ('Home' profile set to 'Turn off password protected sharing' and 'Use user accounts and passwords to connect to other computers')- checked a number of thread on this site and others.Here is my IPCONFIG /ALL from one of the laptops:Windows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : Dell-D830 Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No DNS Suffix Search List. . . . . . : FortinSmith.corp Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : FortinSmith.corp Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Dell Wireless 1490 Dual Band WLAN Mini-Card Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-1D-D9-34-80-08 DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::f0fc:4816:6eb0:700d%11(Preferred) IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.7(Preferred) Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : 04 December 2009 09:24:40 Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : 07 December 2009 09:24:39 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1 DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1 DHCPv6 IAID . . . . . . . . . . . : 218111449 DHCPv6 Client DUID. . . . . . . . : 00-01-00-01-10-ED-14-49-00-1C-23-A5-2B-29 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 208.67.222.222 208.67.220.220 NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Enabled Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : FortinSmith.corp Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-1C-23-A5-2B-29 DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::c5d7:d60b:7254:f2f%10(Preferred) IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.12(Preferred) Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : 04 December 2009 08:51:47 Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : 07 December 2009 09:25:15 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1 DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1 DHCPv6 IAID . . . . . . . . . . . : 234888227 DHCPv6 Client DUID. . . . . . . . : 00-01-00-01-10-ED-14-49-00-1C-23-A5-2B-29 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 208.67.222.222 208.67.220.220 NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Enabled Tunnel adapter Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-E0 DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes IPv6 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 2001:0:5ef5:73bc:34eb:fbfe:a3e5:82ef(Preferred) Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::34eb:fbfe:a3e5:82ef%12(Preferred) Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : :: NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Disabled Tunnel adapter isatap.FortinSmith.corp: Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : FortinSmith.corp Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Microsoft ISATAP Adapter #2 Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-E0 DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : YesHope that someone can help. Have you updated the NIC drivers from the vendor website? does your home network router support ipv6? Allowed all incoming and outgoing connections under advanced Windows Firewall features? Also check the metric, whether its on auto/manual

Ahh, it's nice to have a Jedi Knight on the job!Your comment about V6 support jogged me into looking on the Netgear site. They hadn't put out an upgrade in over a year but, low-and-behold, there was an upgrade. Once installed it seems to have sorted my problem!May the force be with you young Bryan :-)
