Can't seem to set up AutoLogon properly
Thanks for looking: I am using the newest Retail release of Windows 7. I tried to set it up using the CONTROL USERPASSWORD2 command to enable starting windows without having to enter my password. However, each time I start Windows it tells me that the password I entered is incorrect. This might be so because I entered a very complicated password originally and the one I entered into the CONTROL USERPASSWORD may not have exactly matched...or something like that....anyway, when I try to reset the password it tells me that the "user name or password"(s) don't match---match whatever I originally set it up with.So I'm forced to enter the password...which works fine and Windows starts. So, how do I either discover or delete that original password? I read another posting similar to this which suggested going into the registry to the Winlogon section...but in mine there is no "defaultpassword" key listed....You help would be much appreciated. As I say, I'm able to logon and start windows, but I seem to have screwed up the Auto Logon feature, which I would really like to use! Thanks very muchDab

Hi Dabhar, I suggest you remove the logon password first. 1. Click "Start" and "Control Panel".2. Double click "User Account" in Classic View mode.3. Click "Remove your password".4. Type in the current password and click "Remove Password". After that, you may enable the Auto Logon. 1. Click Start button, All Programs and Accessories, right click on Command Prompt and select Run as administrator. 2. Type "control userpasswords2" (without quotation marks) and press Enter. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. 3. Under User tab, uncheck "Users must enter a user name and passwords to use this computer" option. 4. Then the Automatically Log On box pops up, please type your password and double confirm it. 5. Click OK twice and restart the computer to check the issue. Whats the result?Arthur Li - MSFT
