Can't select Network Discovery
I just got a laptop for Christmas with Vista Premium on it. I am trying to get it to discover networks around me but it will not allow me to select 'allow network discovery' When I click yes and then apply it take me back to the main Network window and still says off instead of on. How can I get it to stay on?

Did you select the Home connection when first connecting to your network? If so then im not sure what is causing the problem, but network discovery is disabled and not allowed when connected to a Public Network.Check your network type and if need be change it to home to trust the network your on.You can check your type by simply clicking on the network connection once and the icon to the left of the name will indicate the type of connection you specified. If it shows a Home your golden, if it shows a bench you need to change it. If it shows a building then its a toss up. Not sure where to go from there.Hope this helps!

The Network Discovery option is turned off when the network location type is set to Public.
