Can't start WMI service
By open services.msc to start WMI i receive this error message. --------------------------- Services --------------------------- Could not start the Windows Management Instrumentation service on Local Computer. Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start. --------------------------- OK ---------------------------

Click Start - All Programs - Accessories - Right click Command Prompt and choose Run As Administrator. Type (or copy the below lines and one blank line underneath and right click in the command prompt window and choose Paste). This will start the dependent services in the correct order. Then turn WMI on once they are started. sc start dcomlaunch sc start RpcSs sc config Winmgmt start= auto sc start Winmgmt Right click the window and choose Mark. Select the output. Press Enter. I am using windows xp. there's one service that doesn't exist in services.msc when paste the: sc start dcomlaunch I receive this error message: C:\>sc start dcomlaunch [SC] StartService: OpenService FAILED 1060: The specified service does not exist as an installed service.

Another error message after execute the code in cmd: C:\>reg query HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\DcomLaunch Error: The system was unable to find the specified registry key or value

These are Vista groups not XP. Go to a working XP machine and Click Start - All Programs - Accessories - Right click Command Prompt and choose Run As Administrator (well on Vista this step is necessary). After running working REG file and recovered the dcomlaunch. Error message on dcomlaunch: C:\>sc start dcomlaunch [SC] StartService FAILED 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion. Error message on WMI: C:\>sc start Winmgmt [SC] StartService FAILED 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start.
