Can't uninstall ie8; computer gets stuck on Configuring updates 3 of 3
Whenever I attempt to uninstall IE8, computer says it is uninstalling but then on restart gets stuck on a cycle of Configuring updates 3 of 3. It gets to that point and then goes back to a blank screen and then back to the 3 of 3 screen again. I have to get rid of this IE8 as it is not compatible with my new employer's software. New to revert back to IE7. How can I do this? I have tried uninstalling updates and I tried using a command line using cmd.exe that I found on the support site. Nothing works!1 person needs an answerI do too

If you can't uninstall IE8, would you settle for being able to spoof IE7 (or IE6) User Agent strings to make a wepage or web-based application (but not an installed application) "think" you're running IE7 (or IE6)? I should have mentioned this in my first post, but this is a Vista Home Premium, not XP. I have McAfee with a current subscription. Automatic Updates was enabled until yesterday when I disabled it on advice of my employer's tech support, to automatically show updates but let me review them before installing. I am not computer savvy enough to even try to do a "spoof" of IE7. Actually my employer's tech support people were able to make some changes on my settings and everything on my computer so my program is working now even with the IE8, but I would still like to know how it could be uninstalled in case I have issues again.

I should have mentioned this in my first post, but this is a Vista Home Premium, not XP.You posted in a WinXP-specific forum, Marsha. The Vista-specific forums are found here: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/windowsvistaKB957700 explains how to uninstall (remove) IE8. If you cannot uninstall it, something is very wrong with your computer! That being said, please answer all of these diagnostic questions by number in your very next reply (no need to quote this post): • Which version of the Windows operating system am I running? http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/help/which-version-of-the-windows-operating-system-am-i-running1.
