Hi,

I have trouble with updating the Defender on Windows 8.1. The Defender says: "Virus and spyware definitons: Connection failed".

When I try to update trough Windows Updates it also failes with an Error Code 80070241.

Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB2267602 (Definition 1.165.1973.0)

I tried it with a clean boot but that didn't helped and ran that fixing program "WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab" but isn't able to fix it.

I really don't know what else to do. Somebody knows what going on?

Also I got a copy of my 'WindowsUpdate.log' file.

The first thing I would check is to make sure the Windows Update service is started.  To do this:

1. Press Windows and R key together to open run.
2. Type services.msc and hit Enter.
3. Locate Windows update service and Background Intelligent Transfer service . Double click on each one of them.
4. Check if the services status are Started and set to Automatic.
5. If not, start it and set the startup type to automatic.
6. Click on Apply and then on OK.

Try downloading and installing the updates again.

If youre still having problems, you can try clearing the driver cache.  In order to do this:

1. Press Windows and R key together to open run.
2. Type cmd and hit Enter.
3. On the Command Prompt, type net stop wuauserv.
4. Still on the Command Prompt, type cd /d %windir% or cd\windows
5. Type rd /s SoftwareDistribution
6. Type net start wuauserv

Now you can go ahead and try downloading and installing the updates once again.
