To me, this smells like a name resolution problem. Can he connect to the server if he does so by IP address? IOW: Try: Start -> Run -> "\\192.168.1.23"Where 192.168.1.23 is replaced by the IP address of the server.Check to make sure that the "Computer Browser" service is running on this computer... Start -> Run -> "services.msc"Look for the "Computer Browser" line and verify that it is "Started" and Startup type is "Automatic". If not, double-click on that line and make it that way. Also note that there is a registry entry: HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\parameters\MaintainServerListthat can prevent this service from running (if present and not set to "Auto" or "Yes").At least one machine in each subnet must have this service running. In some companies, a VPN connection places the user in his own subnet and if he is the sole machine in this subnet, this service must be running. For Microsoft filesharing server name resolution, the server should be added to the "LMHOSTS" file with "#PRE" suffix rather than in the "HOSTS" file. Note that like "HOSTS", "LMHOSTS" should have no file extension.HTH, JW
