Can Windows 7 Home Premium be repaired by a Windows 7 Ultimate Disk
Hello I have a window 7 Home Premium installed in my laptop. Yesterday i was working on it and then i shut it down. Today the laptop is not starting up(Desktop is not loading up). During bootup process my screen gets stuck at a black screen where a big "windows start icon" is in the middle of the screen. It then gives me two options. 1.)Launch repair startup. 2.)Launch windows normally. None of the options seems to work for me. I just want to know if i repair the windows 7 Home Premium with my Windows 7 Ultimate dvd disk, will it help solve the problem. Please help......Thanks in advance.

Probably not, I believe to be able to do that you would need to make an iso of your ulimate disk then delete the ei.cfg file and then burn the iso. That gives you an all version disk (32 or 64bit which ever your ultimate disk already is).

The horse has left the barn...but Start\Control Panel\System and Security\Backup and Restore=>Create a system repair disk is useful. Regardless, have you tried pressing F8 (after BIOS beep or post, before Windows starts loading) after turning on the computer to access the repair menu? Select a system restore point on or about 4\11\2011 or the closest. What did you do before shutting down to change the system? Install Windows updates, an application, download files...?

If F8 doesn't launch the repair options and you have no repair disk or installation disk, I suppose you are out of luck. You should have had disk space warnings long before this event. I cannot guarantee that this will work, use it only as a last resort option, you may lose your data... Insert the Windows 7 Ultimate disk and boot to it to perform an upgrade installation. Select the activate later option. (this saves an activation and it would technically be a violation of the EULA to continue to use the installation. You get all of your data in the new install and also in a folder named C:\windows.old. which you can copy\explore. You could then copy your data to an external drive or media. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, but you didn't take the necessary precautions for a recovery. Windows 7 makes it easy.

The short answer iis YES if both systems are 32 bit or both systems are 64 bit. F8 and F12 are two different animals. Use F8. Note: you can also get to windows repair by tapping the spacebar as soon as you power up and then choosing the option at the bottom of the screen related to repair. If both systems are 32 bit or bot are 64 bit then you can make a system repair disc on one system and use it on the other. After makint the repair cid, then boot from it (herre's where you would use the F12 key). Now to make a system repair disc: DISC - CREATE A SYSTEM REPAIR DISC START | type System Repair | Enter key | Create Disc button

Boot from a System Repair Disc. One of the options you will get will enable you to go to a command prompt where you can copy off files if desired. System Repair disc insstalls a minimal Win 7 to a ram drive. The minimal win 7 is referred to as a PE, pre-execution environment.

Yes a live CD would allow you copy your data to another drive (Internal, external or DVD) Hiren's works well, Ubuntu works with some hardware just fine, and has major problems with other, Never used 'Windows 7 Ultimate Live CD' If you just want to recover your data and reload, then get and external hard drive and use a hiren's boot disk there are many versions 10.4 is one of the better builds, but for what you need any of them should work.
