Cannot access on-board outputs (Audio/Video etc) using Remote Desktop
Background I have 3 PC's, all networked successfully, working together in a homegroup. 2 of the PC's are laptops, one is a desktop. All PC's are running Win7 Ultimate x86. I believe my problem is related to another problem I had, burning a CD in RDC. I fixed the issue (With google, and gpedit) and now I can burn CD's just fine. Problem However, the problem I would like to solve now, is how can I control the output of the desktop from the laptop? When I learned about RDC, I was excited to be able to control the desktop using RDC. When I log into RDC, the audio device changes to remote, and the only display available is the remote display. I would like to be able to choose to use the desktop's audio device and display. Audio Option to switch to the desktop's audio device. Example- I log in to RDC, and open WMP. The audio plays from my laptop. I open audio properties, and change the audio device to listen to it from the desktop speakers. Video Option to Extend Windows onto the desktop's displays during a RDC session. Example- I log in to RDC, and enable the host's video displays. Now I can drag windows from my laptop's screen to my desktop's screens. Win7 is ridiculously advanced, the technology and hardware are there, how do I make these things happen? I have given the perfect scenarios here, but I am open to suggestions* *EXCLUDING THESE I am aware of play-to, while play-to does allow me to play media player songs to my desktop from my laptop, it is the only program I use that supports play to. I cannot, for instance, 'play-to' from my web browser or a game. I am also aware of WiDi/Intel Wireless Display, and while that does seem appealing, there are a few problems with it. Firstly, my processors are not capable, and I am not going to buy new processors for that. Second, the adapters are expensive, and my desktop is already connected to the displays. Third, while this would allow me to clone/extend to the displays, it is unnecessary because I am already accomplishing the connection. I connect wirelessly to the desktop, which is connected to the display. Why would I need a device to wirelessly connect to the display if I am already doing that? Again, the hardware is there, it's 2010, somebody knows how it can be done. Please share this wealth of information =)
