Hello, I just got my new laptop and I am using windows 7 64 bit home premium on it. My office has got 7 desktops connected to each other thru a switch. Out of this switch comes out a cable which goes to the wi-fi. The switch also has an input from the ADSL router for internet. Now, there is another laptop which uses a Windows 7 ultimate, which is connected to the wi-fi and all the other computers thru the wifi - switch - computer. But, my new computer which runs on windows 7 home premium cannot be seen on the network at all. However, the internet runs well the invisible computer and also the other computers can be seen on the other invisible computer. Sometimes, it is possible to share files also from other computers to the invisible computer, but in most cases, its not. I tried every possible thing known to me but no success! A little help would be appreciated!

Hi, Please try the following steps to troubleshoot the issue. 1. Assure the machines are in the same Workgroup and subnet. Then, please temporarily disable firewall on each Windows 7 machine for a test. 2. Install the Link Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) Responder package on each Windows XP machine from the link below: Link Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) Responder package 3. Assure the following services are started on each machine: Computer Browser, Server, Workstation 4. Modify relevant settings on each Windows 7 machine. a. Click Start and open Control Panel. b. Open "Network and Sharing Center" and click "Advanced sharing settings". c. Expand the current network profile (such as "Home or Work"), and then select the following options: "Turn on Network Discovery", "Turn on file and printer sharing", "Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can read and write files in the Public folders", "Turn off password protected sharing" 4. Write down the computer name for another Windows 7. Click Start button in Windows 7 and type \\Windows 7 computer name, and then press enter. Can you access another Windows 7 computer now? Hey, Thank you for your prompt reply. Ok, first Now I can atleast share files between both the Windows 7 laptops, the other desktops are visible on this new pc running windows 7 home premium, but unfortunately cannot share any files. On the other side, this new pc is still not visible / available on the network for desktops running on Windows XP. FYI, we do not have a server based network...its just a P2P based work-group, where each computer is connected to another via an 8-port switch. So what next? Oh ya, BTW I un-installed the anti virus MCaffee before doing all these and now there is no anti-virus in this computer. Its only after this and precisely following the steps you had asked me to do, sharing files has been possible. In your previous reply, you have said that the LLTD needs to be installed in the Pcs running Windows XP, how does running this software on XP help?? I now look forward to hear from you soon. Hi, The LLTD is just a component and it need not to be run in Windows XP. After installing the package, the component will be turned on automatically. At this stage, I suggest you also refer to the link below to troubleshoot the issue. Share files between Windows 7 and Windows XP Thanks, Novak
