Cannot connect directly to modem???
First off I am currently using a wired router, with 4 ports, and i can access the internet alright. But when i play a game online, such as Guitar hero 3 on PS3 (connected to router) I disconnect every 3 mins or so, and online games on my laptop (Sony Vaio VGN-NR38S with Vista), I also disconnect frequently...It was suggested that i try connecting my laptop straight into the cable modem to see if it works alright without the router being involved...I have tried this now and can't understand why it doesn't connect, it seems to, sometimes says its connected to local area and network, but doesn't actually connect.Eventually "Limited Connectivity" will appear. It always does in the end :( .I have now tried connecting my dad's laptop (with XP) into the modem and it connects fine and well.So it's just my laptop with Vista that cant connect when going straight to the cable modem, can anyone help please??

Hi, Thank you for posting. Regarding to connecting to Internet, basically, you may have 3 ways, PPPoE, static IP and dynamic IP. Therefore, to connect properly, you need to configure the connection referring to your ISPs settings. Please double-check if you have configured the laptop network settings properly. If you need help on the configuration, you can contact your ISP for help. I suspect you need to set up a PPPoE connection, you can also refer to the following document: Create a PPPoE connection to the Internet http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/f573e922-3dde-baac-69ef-a115548a83411033.mspx Hope this helps. I hadnt tried the PPPoE suggestion but when im connected to the modem and try to create it through following the steps, it cant connect to establish the connection, i think my laptop just isnt up for a happy connection lol.Any ideas?

Hi, Thank you for your update. May I know how you connect to the Internet, via PPPoE, static IP and dynamic IP? Meanwhile, please try to update your NIC driver to see if it helps. Thanks. Nicholas Li - MSFT
