Cannot connect to Sitecom WL306 router with Sitecom 300N USB Adapter XR Model WL302 XR v1
Hello all,I can't seem to get my router and adapter work together under Windows 7. I have tried WPA TKIP and WPA AES, and mixed mode also. Can't seem to get it to work. I have double checked the passphrase, and tried the hexadecimal variant also. Nothing. Used the same options on my Mac and on my Windows Vista notebook, both work immediately. I have just upgraded my PC running Vista to have it run Windows 7. Big disappointment, hope it turns out well. I did get the router and adapter to communicate when I disable encryption entirely, but that obviously is not an option for normal use. Does anyone know how I should set up my Sitecom WL306 router and Sitecom 300N USB Adapter XR Model WL302 XR v1 to get my Internet connection back to work under Windows 7?Hope anyone can help me further.Computer Science Made Easy

Hi, Since the router and network adapter can work fine after disabling encryption, we can eliminate the Windows 7 setting cause. The issue can occur by incorrect encryption settings. I suggest you refer to the following article to secure your wireless network. Sitecom WL306 router (Please refer to the article "How can I secure my wireless network connection?") Hi Novak,Thanks for your response. The thing that puzzles me is that I was able to successfully install a Netgear adapter under Windows 7.I do understand my router pretty well, I have installed my Windows Vista notebook and my MacBook connecting to the same router, works perfectly with encryption. Then I installed the Netgear adapter under Windows 7, also with encryption, works perfectly also. I do must say that I used the tool provided by Netgear, not the built-in Windows tool to configure it. That is a difference. The only thing I cannot get to work is my Sitecom adapter with the Sitecom router. It worked when I still had Vista running, but with Windows 7 it keeps telling me that the passphrase or hexadecimal string is wrong. I find it weird that it tells me this immediately when I provide it. Normally, it would take a short moment for the router to tell me the passphrase is wrong.I do not think the problem is with the router configuration, since I can use it with Vista, Mac and the Netgear adapter under Windows 7.Cheers,RodneyComputer Science Made Easy

Hi Rodney, I understand that other machine can access Internet fine with encryption. Based on my research, this issue can occur by incompatible Sitecom adapter driver or incorrect encryption settings. At this stage, I suggest you try the following steps. 1. Temporarily turn off firewall on Windows 7 machine. 2. Upgrade the Wireless network adapter driver and install it in Compatibility Mode. 3. Uninstall the Netgear tool on Windows 7 machine and use the built-in tool to configure Wireless network. Please assure the SSID and passphrase is the same for the router config page. Also, assure the Mac address of the Sitecom adapter is permitted in config page. Thanks, Novak

Thanks, I will try this later today when I come home. Also, I e-mailed Sitecom about this. Maybe they have got an updated driver.Regarding your points:1. I am using GData Firewall2. Will try.3. I didn't use the the Netgear tool for the Sitecom adapter, didn't install that until much later. Will keep you informed.Computer Science Made Easy
