Cannot connect to computer running Windows XP Professional SP3 through remote desktop.
I cannot connect to another computer through the native remote desktop app. The error message says that due to a network error the connection was lost. I have already selected all the various options of allowing remote desktop access and the firewall is turned off. Also, i have made a test with netstat and the default port 3389 is listening and i could connect to it through telnet. I do not know what else to do, since everything is in its place, and i can even connect to other computers from the computer which i cannot connect to. Please help.2 people need an answerI do too

If you know that all the processes and the services required to run it are on have you attempted to restart them? I have had limited luck connecting from one of my computers however after I restarted the services whatever the hangup was vanished. It can happen when something gets stuck in your DNS cache that is using the same port or can simply hang. If that's not the case To get your ip address use the run command >> ipconfig (it should show on its own however you can hit ipconfig /renew if you need to) if you know the ip address you could try using the run command >> mstsc the computer name is the ip address and the user name is whatever you use to login. this type of connection REQUIRES a password for it to function properly. You shouldn't have to worry about the port you are using if you connect this way, as the program is set to do some of that on it's own. If you have McAfee installed it tends to block the ports RDP uses (some of the other anti-malware sets do the same) Only thing you need to make sure of is the computer you want to connect to is setup for the remote desktop connection to run. for that right click "My Computer" on the system properties window goto remote and make sure there is a checkmark in BOTH boxes. Hit ok and it "should" run as long as the services needed for a remote connection are at the default "automatic" One other note if your experiance is set very high and your upload (not download) speed is lowwer than the setting you can constantly kill the connection as long as the check box to reconnect is checked you'll get very annoyed very fast... Don't forget to save the RDP file its easier to work from it.
