Cannot connect to the internet with my desktop (wireless works on laptop). No icons available and in device Manager, it is totally blank.
Went to disable some programs from starting up in the startup menu when the system bootsn on my desktop which is hardwired to the internet. now i cannot access the internet. when this happened I went back and enabled everything that I disabled but still could not access internet. Checked device manager to see if I could enable it but unfortunately device manager was completely blank. I have internet service as I am online right now asking for help which is on a wireless connection. If I can just get to the icon I can enable it. any suggestions. found out that while I was doing that XP service pack 3 was updating at the same time without my knowledge and when the changes to startup restarted the computer something got messed up. Tried system restore for the first time ever on this computer to see if this would help but i found out that system restore was disabled so i dont think I will ever find this without wiping out the system and starting over of which I would rather not do. All programs work I just cannot see anything in device manager. when opening diagnostic log under network adapter identification I see error: failed with error 0x80070422: the service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it2 people need an answerI do too
