Cannot delete folders on network file share but can delete files within folder
I installed Windows Vista Business on my Dell Latitude D820 and now run into a rather strange situation attempting to manipulate files on my Dell PowerVault 705N. After much work, I was able to map a drive (P:\) to the PowerVault (\\dellpv\share) and am able to browse folders and files. I am able to create a folder, copy files and folder to and from the PowerVault. However, when I do create a new folder (Right-Click > New > Folder), Explorer hangs and I end up with New Folder through New Folder (201). 201 in this case because that's how many were created before I ended the process. I also am unable to delete folders that contain files on the PowerVault. I must delete the files within a folder before I can delete the folder. All of this worked just fine with Windows XP Professional SP2 installed on the Laitude D820 and continues to work fine on other computers with Windows XP Professional SP2 and Windows 2000 Server SP4. This is in a workgroup environment with a workgroup name of WORKGROUP. User Account Control is turned off. In order to actually connect to the PowerVault in the first place, I changed the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\LMCompatibilityLevel registry value on the computer running Windows Vista to 1. This was per the File and Printer Sharing in Windows Vista article on TechNet. (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/network/evaluate/vista_fp.mspx#EQBAE) In the Network and Sharing Center, my network is set to Private network. In Sharing and Discovery, Network discovery is On, File sharing is On, Public folder sharing is Off, Printer sharing is Off, Password protected sharing is Off, and Media sharing is Off. Please help! If there is any additional information I can provide, please ask! Thanks in advance for any and all assistance. Cheers! Dave
